New England’s Ryan Tanenich and LeGarrett Blount are set to take on the Chicago Bears in preseason opener.
It’s an interesting matchup as the Patriots return two starters and have to be careful with the injuries they’ve suffered over the past two weeks.
Tanneich has been getting much more work at the quarterback position as the team enters a stretch of four consecutive games.
Blount, meanwhile, will start at quarterback in the opener after sitting out all of training camp due to an ankle injury.
Tanenicht and Blount will be the first of two returning starters for the Bears, who lost All-Pro running back Matt Forte to a season-ending injury last week.
Blanton, a fifth-round draft pick last season, has been working with rookie offensive lineman Ryan Groy, who started in the preseason opener last week against Detroit.
It’ll be interesting to see how both quarterbacks react to being thrown into the fire.
Tanner has started all of his career and finished with a career-high passer rating of 120.4 during the 2015 season.
Blantons completion percentage dipped slightly last year, but it’s still a very accurate number.
Tanney is coming off an 8-5 season and is looking for his first winning season since 2003.
Tan, who has completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,912 yards, is in his fifth season with the Patriots.
Blundens first season as a starter came in 2014 when he started the final six games.
The Patriots had just four quarterbacks throw for more than 400 yards in the regular season.
The two-time Pro Bowler will need to throw for at least 400 yards again to start the season.
