Arsenal are preparing to add Alexis Sanchez to their January transfer list as they seek to bolster their defence.

The Gunners are confident the Chile international will sign a new five-year contract after agreeing a fee with the Gunners in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has been a regular in Arsene Wenger’s defence for the past five seasons but he has yet to win a Premier League trophy.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of targets this summer, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City also known to be interested.

Sanchez, who has been at the Nou Camp for seven years, scored 27 goals last season but he struggled to get into the side.

Arsenal were able to land Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the summer and he has since established himself as a key figure in their defence, scoring 21 goals last term.

Barcelona are hoping to get a deal done with the Chile forward, who is believed to be on the verge of a £30 million move to the Nou Barca.

Sampdoria winger Giorgio Chiellini, meanwhile, has emerged as a target for Arsenal this summer.

The Italy international has attracted interest from several clubs but Arsenal are still interested in bringing him to London and are willing to sell the 24-year‑old for a fee in the region of £50m.
